More about the magic Troll Peninsula and Trausti:
The dominating figure of Troll Peninsula in the North of Iceland are breathtaking majestic Alpine-like mountain ranges, making Troll Peninsula very unique in Iceland. Our trip is an introduction to this beautiful landscape and an invitation to climb up a few peaks taking us through a diverse mountain formations and various communities, as well as many old and powerful stories. The area has traditional fishing villages and also many farms settlements scattered all over with its unique sagas and traditional way of living, where agriculture and fishing are the main source of income. Not only have we chance to visit the Northmost fishing village of Iceland, but also get to know its powerful history, when once this was a „fishing Clondyke“ of Iceland. Traditional handicrafts, especially knitting related to quality wool coming from Icelandic sheep is something to discover. Visiting small churches scattered in the area, will uncover more of culture and history that Icelanders have been living for the past centuries.
Last but not least, the couple that is going to host us: Sibba and Trausti have been putting a lot of energy into a pilot project of sustainable community in the area of Fljót (where they live) for the past few years. We have a great chance to learn about the details, its history and future plans and can contribute with our thoughts especially based on the experience and impressions we will gain during the trips.
